WhatsApp, the globally renowned instant messaging app, has been on an accelerated roll in terms of feature updates. In the past year, the company unveiled the capability to transfer data between Android and iOS devices. Furthermore, it enabled users to employ a single account across multiple devices. Now, they’re answering a longstanding user request by introducing the ability to manage multiple accounts on the same device.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has made the exciting announcement that WhatsApp will soon facilitate the use of two accounts on one Android phone. This feature has already been accessible in the beta version of WhatsApp since August 2023 and is set to be officially released to the general public. This development is particularly beneficial for individuals who maintain separate phone numbers for personal and professional use and need to operate WhatsApp for both.
Two Accounts on a Single Phone
This new feature may render Samsung’s Dual Messenger somewhat redundant, as it currently duplicates instant messaging and social media apps, enabling the use of two accounts via two distinct instances of the same app. Nevertheless, some users may still opt for Dual Messenger, especially if they require the convenience of managing up to four WhatsApp accounts on a single device.
As for iPhone users, there is no specific information regarding when they can expect this feature to become available. Meta has been following a trend of introducing new features on Android before iOS. For instance, WhatsApp has a dedicated application for Wear OS smartwatches, while it’s not yet accessible on Apple Watches. Additionally, there are plans to integrate Meta AI into WhatsApp, alongside the introduction of Generative AI stickers.
